The University of South Carolina Health Sciences Center (UCSC) has announced the results of a study which is based on the results of a Phase 2 study in people with autoimmune diseases.
The study was designed to assess the efficacy of the two drugs Lamisil Cream and Terbinafine (bicalutamide). The results of the Phase 2 study, which was the largest study to date, compared the efficacy of the two drugs in the treatment of people with the autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and chronic urticaria.
The study, which is presented at the American College of Rheumatology meeting in San Francisco, involved more than 1,000 patients who were given either a single dose of the two drugs or an individual dose of Lamisil Cream and Terbinafine, both oral tablets. The findings were presented at the meeting at the International Conference on Rheumatology.
“This study showed that the two drugs had similar efficacy in the treatment of SLE, RA, and chronic urticaria,” said Dr. Michael D. Stahl, Director of UCSC.
“The combination of terbinafine and lamisil Cream significantly improved the healing of SLE, RA, and chronic urticaria. Lamisil Cream is an effective and well-tolerated medication for treating SLE, RA, and chronic urticaria,” Dr. Stahl explained.
“Combination of terbinafine and lamisil Cream was shown to be very effective in the treatment of SLE, RA, and chronic urticaria,” said Dr. Stahl. “This is the first study to report the combination of terbinafine and lamisil Cream in patients with SLE, RA, and chronic urticaria.”
